Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is the laminated veneer laminated (or spliced) sheets that are bonded together according to the grain of the main billet.
Manufacturing process:
The production process of veneer laminated wood is roughly the same as that of plywood, which is made of veneer glued together along the grain direction. It is a product processed instead of sawn wood. The emphasis is on enhancing the longitudinal mechanical properties of the product.
Advantages:
(1) Uniform structure and good dimensional stability, the laminated structure of veneer laminated wood greatly reduces the possibility of defects such as warping and torsion of the plate, and has good stability and small deformation.
(2) High strength. Laminated veneer is a building material with high strength-to-weight ratio, which is superior to steel. The change rate of mechanical properties of sawn timber is generally above 30%, and the change rate of LVL strength is generally below 12%. Therefore, LVL has uniform structural characteristics and high reliability.
(3) High economy, no special requirements for raw materials, can use fast-growing materials, small grade and short materials as raw materials. The economy of veneer laminated wood is concentrated in the value-added effect of the optimal use of inferior wood and large use of small wood. It can use different tree species and different quality of wood for laminated gluing, without eliminating defects such as joints, and can increase the output rate more than double compared with integrated wood.
(4) Easy to handle. According to the requirements of the use environment of the product, it is easy to carry out special treatment of the product such as anticorrosion, insect prevention and fire prevention.
(5) Production and application can be standardized and serialized. In the production process, the veneer is graded according to certain standards to produce products with different levels of quality standards.
Application overview:
Veneer laminated wood can be divided into two categories according to the use of structural LVL (that is, load-bearing components) and non-structural LVL (that is, non-load-bearing components). Structural laminated veneer is generally used for structural components that bear loads instantaneously or for a long time, such as beams or columns of long-span construction facilities, wooden structure houses, vehicles, ships and Bridges. Non-structural laminated veneer is mainly used for furniture and interior decoration, such as doors, door and window frames, indoor partitions and so on. Currently, 40%-60% of LVL is used in the construction industry, such as wood-framed houses.
